What You'll Need: A hammer, a screwdriver, measuring tape, a pencil or painter's tape, a level, a friend (if your piece is very large), and some enthusiasm! Short on everything but the friend and the enthusiasm? Shop our Tool Kit.
Find the instructions for per hanging hardware below:
Corner Brackets
- Determine where the center top of your frame will be placed. Measure 2 inches down from that spot and mark lightly with a pencil.
- The Corner Brackets on your frame have arrows indented in them. Measure between the two arrows. The mark you made on the wall represents the center point of that measurement.
- Mark the endpoints of your measurement on each side of your center point with a pencil. These points are where you will place your hooks.
- Place the hooks against the wall and hammer the nail through the hook at a downward angle.
- Hold your frame higher than the hooks on the wall and slowly slide the frame down. The rugged edge of the corner bracket will rest directly on the nail, within the slot opening of the hook.
- You can then slide the picture to the left or right to get it exactly level.
Wire
- Hold the frame to the wall at the desired position and lightly mark on the wall where the center of the frame is with pencil or removable painter’s tape.
- On the back of the frame, find the center of the hanging wire. Gently pull the hanging wire toward the top of the frame until taut.
- Measure the distance from where you are holding the wire taut to the top of the frame.
- Use the dimensions from step three to measure down from your initial mark. Make a mark here to note where you will place your nail.
- Position your hook and nail on the wall. Hammer the nail through the hook.
- Erase the pencil marks or remove the tape from the wall.
- Use your hands to help guide the wire onto the hanger. If your piece is too large to hang alone, have a friend hold the frame while you guide the wire onto the wall hanger.
- Once the wire is on the hook, place a level on top to check if the frame hangs evenly.
Sawtooth
- Hold your frame on the wall at the desired position.
- Leave your finger or make a light pencil mark at the sawtooth hanger's location.
- Apply drywall screw with Phillips-head screwdriver.
- Hang your frame on the screw and check with a level.
French Cleat (Simply Framed Black Label only)
- Measure the width of your frame to calculate and find the center.
- Hold your frame to the wall at the desired position (for large pieces, enlist a friend to help!)
- Draw a light pencil mark where the top center of your frame is positioned.
- Remove your frame from the wall.
- Measure the distance from the center of your frame to the bottom of the cleat.
- Use the dimensions from step 5 to measure down from your initial mark. Make an X here for the cleat's center point.
- Measure the width of the cleat to find its center point.
- Line the cleat up on the wall so that the cleat’s center point intersects with the X from step 6.
- Position the cleat with the ridge that will hold your picture facing up and out from the wall.
- Use a level to ensure that the cleat is even.
- With the provided hanging hardware, screw your cleat firmly into the wall.
- Hang your frame on the cleat.
